Spring Cleaning Your CatholicMatch Profile

16

With all the extra time spent at home these days, it's hard to find an excuse NOT to do spring cleaning.

My mother passed onto me a love for cleaning, in particular spring cleaning. It was something taken very seriously at the Breen household. The first sunny Saturday in spring was marked as the day we rolled up our sleeves and tackled both the indoor and outdoor chores.

Dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing (areas I didn't even know that needed to be cleaned!), organizing, and getting rid of items. I have not even gotten to the garage or backyard yet; I hated weeding something fierce. There was so much to accomplish, we typically needed two back-to-back Saturdays to get everything done.

But when we finished everything? Oh how sweet it felt!

While I did not love our annual spring cleaning while growing up, my adult-self relishes in taking time to have a clean and orderly home as I head into my favorite time of the year.

As life resumes more after these months of quarantine, why not take some of that gusto “spring cleaning” energy and direct a bit towards your CatholicMatch profile?

Just as you take time to deep clean your home or organize areas, freshen up your profile a bit and make yourself stand out a bit.

Here are a few ideas:

1. Rework your introduction.

Have you ever heard the saying, sometimes words fall on deaf ears? Anyone who is doing online dating (you!) wants their profile to stand out above the rest and make a good first impression. Why not take some time to re-write your introduction a bit?

Consider asking a friend to read over your profile and give you some helpful feedback: What is your initial reaction? How does that sound? Does my introduction draw the reader in? Is there anything to make a connection with? What needs to be changed or tweaked? Grateful for your friend’s insight, see what you can do to freshen your first impression through the introduction.

Who knows, a few changes could make a difference in drawing new eyes to your profile.

2. Add new pictures (or change your profile picture)!

Remember those fun photos from your recent vacation with friends? What about the pictures from standing up at your best friend’s wedding? How about the photos from your 40th surprise birthday party?

We all know the importance of photos (good photos!) in an online dating profile. Look at the last six months of life and see where you took some fun, great pictures of yourself living your best life. Find some photos that radiate your personality and make you feel confident about yourself.

I have taken the time to add new photos every few months. It is one of the best ways to freshen up your profile...and showcase your killer smile.

3. Reconfigure your questions in an initial message.

This is more of an internal thing you can work on from behind the scenes of your profile. Let me explain a bit more.

When I would send a first message to a man, I had a specific “process.” One of the things I did was end my message with one or two little questions. For me, it served two purposes: a fun way to get to know each other a bit more and a way to hopefully keep the conversation going. I would often end with things like: What are the things that most bring joy to your life? What are three dreams you have for your life? What are the top three places on your travel bucket list and why do you want to go there?

Maybe take a bit of time this week to rework how you send an initial message. Add in one or two new questions. Maybe spice it up a bit with a funny, silly get-to-know-you question.

Regardless of your feelings about the spring cleaning of your home, taking some time for freshening up your CatholicMatch profile might be the thing you need to have some new perspective.

At the end of day, be yourself. Be true to you and simply allow your profile to reflect and highlight that.
