Have you ever gotten a less than great suggestion from a well-intentioned person on where to meet someone?
“Why don’t you go to young adult events?”
“Have you kept your eyes open at church?”
You know what I mean.
Maybe you have experienced these or similar types of questions before.
I have had a fair number of discussions with both my dating and married girlfriends on ideas of where to meet men. If you are trying online dating, but also seeking some real-life connections to meet and connect with men, maybe consider one of these.
5 Star Hotel Lobbies
Do a Google search of five-star hotels in your town or nearby area. If you need a change of scenery from working remotely full-time, make a point to change up the location for a few days. If the hotel has a bar/restaurant, make a point to go to happy hour for some drinks and appetizers with a few girlfriends.
Upscale Gyms/CrossFit Gyms
As a lover of CrossFit myself, I could not resist putting that on the list, because I find I am always meeting and connecting with new people where I regularly attend CrossFit. Make a point to go either early in the morning or after work. Smile, be open and approachable, and of course, have fun!
Coworking space events
This could be a great place to socialize with men who don’t have a typical office work schedule. ‘WeWork’ holds coworking events in lots of cities. Check it out to see if there are any upcoming events near you. You can find out what local entrepreneurs are working on and form inspiring connections with new people.
Cool, Yuppie Areas of Town
Is there a cool downtown area near you? Where are some of the best cafes, coffee shops, museums, antique stores, or used book stores? Grab a girlfriend and go on an adventure. Or, if you’re feeling like a social butterfly, take yourself on an adventure. See where it takes you and be open to who you might meet.
Running Club
While it might be difficult to imagine running in the cold of winter, consider joining a running club as the weather warms up. Several years ago I was in a running club, and one of the couples initially met and became engaged after independently joining the same running club.
Look on Facebook or Google “running clubs near me.” You might be pleasantly surprised by what you discover!
Car shows
Car shows are a thriving and frequent community that attracts all kinds of people. Sometimes large cities have annual car shows and then again your local community may have some frequently over the weekend. Do a little research in your local community.
Special seasonal events (fireworks, ice shows, Christmas light display, etc.)
Seasonal events can be found by searching on Google or using the Facebook Event page on your Facebook account. I have come across some fun events on Facebook that I might not have ever discovered before.
I went to some unique art exhibits and original concerts at old churches/beautiful venues around my city.
Sunday brunch
I don’t know about you ladies, but I just love a fun, relaxing Sunday brunch. Google where to get the best brunch in your city and get your girlfriends organized for a beautiful Saturday or Sunday morning brunch. If you are feeling adventurous, even just take yourself out to brunch!
Toastmasters Event
This globally-renowned club helps empower attendees to improve their communication skills (let’s be honest…who doesn’t need to improve on that?) and stretch themselves out of their comfort zone.
You will receive support on your communication and be uplifted by a group of forward-thinking people.
Farmer’s market
A great place for organic, locally sourced produce and other unique goods. They are typically held on the weekends. Walk around, enjoy the live music, and chat with vendors. Weekly Farmer's Markets can be found with a Google search of “Farmer’s Markets Near Me.”
Lastly, don't be afraid to ask your friends where they go to meet new people.
Single and married friends alike may know of a few places or events in the area that are known to pull in a crowd of singles. Even better, they may already be aware of a few singles worth setting you up on a date with.
