Does she like me? It’s the question most men ask themselves about women.
And let’s be honest, a lot of us can still approach this a lot as we might have at a junior high dance. The kind where you look across the room wondering if a girl will dance with you and speculate on all the different scenarios. The easiest way to find out back then would have been to just go ask her to dance.
The easiest way to find out today if a woman is interested might be to just ask her out. But even if a man isn’t into overthinking everything, a few helpful clues indicating interest are still a confidence-booster. Here are six clues that make thinking a woman is into you at least a reasonable possibility…
1. She’s There
If you interact in the same groups, either at work or socially, does she always seem to find a way to where you are? If it’s a Catholic singles event with 50 people, does she always seem to wind up within conversational distance of you? If you work together, do your breaks always seem to coincide? If that’s the case, she might be looking to just be around you.
2. She Shares The Things She Wants To Do
You’re having a conversation with this woman and maybe the topic is a popular new movie that’s out. She makes specific references about how much she’s looking forward to seeing it. Or there’s a new restaurant in town and she makes specific reference to wanting to try it out.
The keyword here is specific. This isn’t a vague reference to “I might like to see that”, or “I might like to try that place out”. It is a specific, expressed desire to take whatever action you might be discussing. To put it in baseball terms, you are being served a hanging curveball with the invitation to knock it out of the park with a simple “You want to go there together?”
3. She Tells You About Herself
Does a woman take conversations beyond the mundane or even the social stuff discussed above, and start telling you some things about herself? Sharing information about her family is one possibility. Or discussing her goals for the future. Of course, this latter could be taken to an extreme.
Fans of The Office no doubt remember that Kelly Kapoor freely shared her goals for the future with love interest Ryan Howard before they really knew each other. Those goals, as relayed by Howard were “to have babies. With me.” That was obviously a sign of interest, but just as obviously a sign to start running and never stop.
But we’ll presume the indicators you’re getting are healthy, appropriate, and simply a sign of interest in going on a date.
4. She Asks About You
In addition to sharing some appropriate information about herself, is this woman also looking to learn more about you? It can be very basic questions, like how many siblings you have, where are you from and what are you hoping to do in your career. You’re being invited to open up a little bit more, and conversations like this can organically lead to an easy “How about we continue this conversation over dinner sometime?”
5. She Seems Happier When She Sees You
In the Christmas movie classic, It’s a Wonderful Life, protagonist George Bailey is informed by his mother that he should ask out Mary Hatch. Bailey protests that she’s interested in someone else. The astute mother points out that “she lights up like a firefly whenever you’re around”.
Now, asking for any woman to light up like that might be a little too Hollywood. But does your walking into the room put a little smile on her face? If you work together, does she seem to relax a bit during what could be a hectic day? That’s definitely a sign that she at least likes you as a friend and can certainly indicate a deeper interest.
6. She Thinks You’re Funny & Smart
I know as men, a lot of us want to think we combine sharp wit with deep insight into the times we live in. And maybe we really do. But if a woman we’ve never even been on a date with is already finding us humorous and intelligent, we might want to recognize that has more to do with her interest and less to do with our suave sophistication. Oh, and for guys who love sports, it’s also a tell when she’s suddenly interested in how your favorite teams are doing.
I want to emphasize that none of these are slam-dunk guarantees that a woman is interested.
I’ve had what I thought were those signs and they fizzled. It’s also possible that even a correct reading of the signs might not spare you from rejection—women can get as nervous as men and freeze in that moment when they’re asked out. Dating is a leap of faith, at least a modest one, on both sides.
What these signs do provide men, however, is a reasonable basis for taking that initial leap to ask a woman out. You might not have certainty, but you aren’t being delusional in thinking “Hey, I think she might like me”.
