When something isn’t going the way you want it, the hardest thing to do is to back off and let go. But sometimes that’s exactly what’s required, as the witness of Kyle and Nell demonstrates.
Kyle surrendered his romantic hopes to the Lord, and two months later, Nell showed up.
Kyle moved from Illinois to Florida, and was looking to meet someone so he decided to join CatholicMatch. He joined the site unsure what to expect, and he started by letting go of expectations. “I remember kneeling down in front of the Blessed Sacrament after setting up my profile,” he recalled. “And praying ‘Lord, Let your will be done…If you want me to meet someone, then let it be. If not, I accept that as well.’”
The 29-year-old didn’t get an answer immediately. There was no magical moment of him coming from the Adoration Chapel to find an emotigram or message from the Catholic woman of his dreams. But two months later, he did get a message from 27-year-old Nell, a native of Colorad. Nell was studying to be a veterinarian in Alabama, a manageable four-hour drive from Kyle.
“Our conversations started off short and slow,” Kyle told CatholicMatch. It didn’t take long, though, for Kyle and Nell to realize they had a great deal in common and that their qualities complemented one another in a special way. The short and slow messages turned into ones that were two and three pages long. An initial phone conversation was no less promising.
Nell is studying to be a vet and has a deep love for her Catholic faith and Italian heritage.
