Ladies, as a future wife, make prayer for "Future Husband" a part of your daily prayer routine. Your future marriage will definitely thank you for it and it is an easy way to add to your prayer life during your time of singleness.

One day while I was in college, years before I met him, I decided to begin praying for my future husband. Even though I didn’t know who this man was, God did. I knew my prayers for “Future Husband” would be heard, bringing grace and peace to him at that very moment.

Are you wanting to pray for your future spouse, but unsure where to start? Praying for a future husband is a great practice adopted by many Catholic women. Let’s look at some common Catholic prayers that you can use in praying for your future husband...keep reading!

Catholic Prayer For Future Husband

There is no official Catholic prayer for "future husband". You can choose a novena, devotional, or general prayer, there's no wrong way to do it! If you're looking for a prayer for love, the Catholic Church has many, many options! But, St. Raphael is always a great place to start...

St. Raphael Novena:

See the Resources section at the bottom of the post for the full 9 days of prayer novena!

St. Raphael has long been known as the "Patron Saint of Happy Meetings", so there isn't a better (heavenly) wingman to have on your side!

Popular Prayers For Future Husband

While there's no wrong way of praying for your future spouse, it's always good to turn to classics. You might consider starting your prayers for your future husband with some popular ones that Catholics like to pray. Many CatholicMatch users themselves have found success with these popular novenas and prayers!

St. Anne Novena:

See the Resources section at the bottom of the post for this popular prayer to meet a husband!

In this prayer for a future husband, St. Anne is invoked as a powerful intercessor. St. Anne is the grandmother of Jesus—Mary’s mother. And just like any grandmother wants to see her grandchildren succeed, St. Anne will help you in finding that special man: “St. Anne, St. Anne, find me a man!”

St. Joseph, pray for us!

There are so many reasons to love St. Joseph and to ask his assistance in praying for your future husband with a St. Joseph Novena. As the foster father of Jesus, he is also known as the Head of the Holy Family, Spouse of the Mother of God, and Guardian of Virgins. Those are powerful titles, and very applicable to those seeking a spouse. You could try praying the Litany of St. Joseph every day, or a St. Joseph Novena (there’s both a 9 day one and a 30 day one!). Links for all of these prayers are found in the Resources section at the bottom of this post!

Pray For Your Future Spouse With These Warming Words

Here is a solidly Catholic prayer for a future husband that entrusts your vocation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary’s Immaculate Heart...it's the perfect way to pray for your future spouse!

Prayer for a Good Husband

O Jesus, lover of the young, the dearest Friend I have, in all confidence I open my heart to You to beg Your light and assistance in the important task of planning my future. Give me the light of Your grace, that I may decide wisely concerning the person who is to be my partner through life.

Dearest Jesus, send me such a one whom in Your divine wisdom You judge best suited to be united with me in marriage. May his character reflect some of the traits of Your own Sacred Heart. May he be upright, loyal, pure, sincere and noble, so that with united efforts and with pure and unselfish love we both may strive to perfect ourselves in soul and body, as well as the children it may please You to entrust to our care. Bless our friendship before marriage, that sin may have no part in it. May our mutual love bind us so closely, that our future home may ever be most like Your own at Nazareth.

O Mary Immaculate, sweet Mother of the young, to your special care I entrust the decision I am to make as to my future husband. You are my guiding Star! Direct me to the person with whom I can best cooperate in doing God's Holy Will, with whom I can live in peace, love and harmony in this life, and attain to eternal joys in the next. Amen.

Dedicated Prayers For Future Spouse

When it comes to dedicated prayers for future spouse, a couple of ideas from my own prayer for a future husband come to mind...

As I mentioned earlier, I first began intentionally praying for my future husband back in college. One night, I decided to write a letter to my future spouse. The letter, which I composed while in Eucharistic Adoration, was really a written prayer for him. Every so often, from that night on, I took the time to write a prayer for my future husband. I always included the date and location of where I was writing the letter, a little snippet of what God was doing in my life at the time, and a sincere prayer for him. This went on for almost four years. When I finally met and married my husband, I assembled all the prayers I had written (over 30 of them!), and gave them to him on our wedding day.

These types of personal prayers for your future husband are so powerful and meaningful; to this day, my husband keeps the prayers I wrote for him in a box on his nightstand.

More Prayers for Your Future Husband

Don't be afraid to get a little bit creative with your prayers for your future husband. Another personal way of praying for a future husband is dedicating a specific rosary of yours on which to pray for your future husband. I took up this practice about a year before meeting my husband, and I even dedicated a specific day—Sunday—as a day of prayer for my future husband. I would offer my intention of Mass for him and say a rosary on my dedicated rosary for him. I even brought it with me on a pilgrimage to Rome and touched it to many relics and holy sites!

When we got married, just before our wedding Mass, I gave him the rosary I had prayed on for him every Sunday for almost two years!

Try this prayer to meet a husband

Some women wonder how to ask God for a husband. While praying to God should never be likened to having a magic genie in which you get whatever you want, there is no harm in saying a prayer to meet a husband. I’ve heard of women (and I may have tried this myself), who have flat out asked God for the next man He sends them to be their future husband. They are tired of dating and just want to find “the one.” Why not give that a try? It could sound something like this:

Oh God, thank you for bringing the people you have into my life. I am ready to meet my husband, so I would like to ask you, please, that the next dating relationship you bring me is the man to whom I will marry. Amen.

An awesome “praying for my future husband” prayer

Single women, if you want a way to intentionally pray for your future husband, there’s actually a book called 31 Prayers For My Future Husband, by Jennifer and Aaron Smith (link in the Resources section below). It contains 31 specific prayers for your future husband—one for every day of the month. What a great resource! It is something that I wish I had when I was praying for my future husband.

Alternative prayer for a future husband option

The beautiful thing about prayer is that it can be as unique as people are. There is no one-size-fits-all model when it comes to prayer. If none of these ideas are striking a chord with you, that’s okay! Why not try using some of your talents and hobbies as a prayer for a future husband?

If you are an artist, how about drawing or painting a picture of your future husband? Make your artwork a form of prayer, asking God to instill in your future husband all the virtues needed to make your life together someday. Or if you’re a musician, why not play or compose a piece of music for your future husband? Then whenever you play it, make your performance a form of prayer.

Give this daily prayer for my future husband a go

It was important to me to make saying a daily prayer for my future husband part of my routine. When praying daily for something, it is always best to build it around part of your day-to-day life. Pick an activity or a chore you have to do each day (think: walking the dog, brushing your teeth, doing dishes), and say a prayer for your future husband during that time. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or even the same thing every day. A few Hail Mary's, a Divine Mercy Chaplet, or a spontaneous prayer are all efficacious.

Why Praying For Your Future Husband is a Good Idea

So, what’s the big deal about praying for your future husband? Even if, like me, you won’t meet your future husband for years down the road, something always happens when we pray. God hears those prayers and, since He is outside time, it is unfathomable what graces may come from them! I once heard a story of a wife who wrote letters for her future husband (just like I did!), and one of her letters was a prayer she said on the very day he had gotten into a life-threatening accident! She of course had not even met him at that point, but God applied the grace from her prayers to spare his life, so that he could one day be her husband. How amazing is that?

Of course, it is also important to pray to meet your future spouse. You know the saying that nobody can move a parked car? If you’re just sitting around waiting for a husband to drop out of the sky… you’re going to be sitting around forever. Prayer to meet a husband is the first step to take in your path to marriage.

How to Pray For "Future Husband"

When praying for a future husband, make sure you pray for….

his heart.

his health.

his soul.

his mind.

his safety.

his relationship with God.

his path to find yours.

How to Ask God For a Husband

Again, God is not like a magic genie in a lamp, but in general, it’s a good idea to follow these steps on how to ask God for a husband:

Step 1:

Be bold. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 17:20 to ask for big things: “Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Ask God, from the bottom of your heart, to send you a husband.

Step 2

Be patient. Remember that God’s timing is His own, and even though you might feel ready, God might still be working in both of your hearts.

Step 3:

Be specific. This is where picking a specific novena or daily prayer, like the ones mentioned above, comes in really handy. When we make the desires of our hearts known to God, He wants to honor those.

Step 4:

Be persistent. Jesus has much to say about persistence in Luke 18, when he proclaims the parable of the persistent widow. Take heart, you will be rewarded one day for your consistent and constant prayers for a future husband.

Final Points on Praying For a Future Husband

Please remember, these prayers for a future husband are only as good as the intention behind them. Prayer is not about influencing God’s mind, it is about changing our hearts and conforming them to God’s will. God has written the desire for marriage in your heart! The more you pray for your future spouse, the more prepared you’ll be to become a future spouse yourself.

Also, praying for a future husband consistently will help give you a greater sense of certainty when you finally meet the man for you. When we pray for someone, we become spiritually united with them. That link will help you recognize God’s grace working in the relationship meant for marriage.

May the Holy Spirit guide you in your search and in your waiting!

Pray For Your Future Spouse FAQs:

Can God reveal your future husband?

Of course, He can! But, it may not be in the ways that you think. A good way to discover whether or not God sent you someone is to pray, discern your relationship, determine if he is a Godly man, and examine whether this person is leading you closer to Jesus.

How do you know when God is revealing your husband?

God's hand probably won't drop you a neon sign saying "this is the man you're going to marry!" but He can speak to you in prayer. So, when you're dating someone and you feel as if the relationship could lead to marriage, be sure to keep God involved!

Is it okay to pray for your future husband?

It is not just okay, it is needed! As a Christian, you should be praying for your future spouse on a regular basis. Not just praying to meet them soon, but for their soul and their vocation. It is always a good idea to pray!
