Don't Stop Dreaming Of 'Happily Ever After'

“You know, some dreams come true, even when they are out of the realm of possibility.”

My mom was responding via e-mail to my routine slough of complaints regarding my dating life when she offered that gem of a response.

The theme song from Cinderella immediately came to mind.

“No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
the dream that you wish will come true.”

After years of dating, the Cinderella fairy tale that so many of us believe growing up has become increasingly unreachable, if not unrealistic. After each failed relationship, the dream of finding Prince Charming (or Princess Charming) fades deeper into the background of life.

Dreams are great in theory, but many single Catholics, myself included, begin to believe that perhaps those dreams we have for ourselves may never be achieved after all.

Do I believe in love?

Yes.

Do I believe in marriage?

Of course.

But while I dream of both of these things, in my lowest moments I question if these dreams are really just dreams meant to be met for everyone else. Watching others find love, exchange vows and begin their lives together reminds me that love is alive. I don’t question that. I do question if my dreams will ever be fulfilled by the One who is tasked with fulfilling the dreams of so many others.

CatholicMatchers, we may all be ambitious dreamers, but God is the greatest dreamer of them all. In fact, God promises that our dreams our His dreams. Our wishes are His wishes. Our hopes are His hopes.

How amazing is that?

The Creator of this world values the deepest desires of our hearts, which, by virtue of being on CatholicMatch, includes finding the person each of us are meant to be with.
