Meeting someone for the first time who you've been talking to for a while is exciting and also scary.

Here are some quick tips to help you stay safe when meeting someone long distance.

1.Video chat before you meet. If you haven't yet talked to them over video, set this up before either of your spends money on a trip. It will reassure both of you to see the other person, and will help you get some chemistry established.

2. Stay in a hotel. Check into your own room and avoid staying in the other person’s home.

3. Use a taxi, Uber, Lyft, or rental car for transportation. Even if the person you’re meeting offers to pick you up, it’s important to secure your own transportation so that you aren’t stranded in the event that something doesn’t go as planned.

4. Keep your lodging information private. The person you’re meeting should respect your privacy until you know each other a bit better.
