Love Came Once She Stopped Looking: Kathleen & Scott

Kathleen and Scott were both discouraged with what dating had brought them.

For Kathleen, much of that discouragement came from her five years on CatholicMatch. There had been two relationships, both with men she admired, but neither of whom brought that special chemistry and “click” that comes with one’s future spouse.

She’d been on and off the site for five years, but the difficulties that came with long-distance relationships were wearing on her and she decided to let her subscription run out.

Scott had never been a CatholicMatch member and had recently ended a long-distance relationship. He took some time off from dating to allow God to move him in a different direction. That direction was to the back page of his parish bulletin, where the CatholicMatch ad was found.

Scott was skeptical of online dating when he created his profile, while Kathleen was focused on pursuing her teaching career. When he sent her a message it was two weeks before she noticed it. Though her subscription had lapsed, she still decided to check in and see if there was any activity on her profile. After seeing that a guy from the next town had messaged her, she slept on it and decided $24.95 was worth it to get a one-month subscription and see what the message had to say.

Once they exchanged e-mails, they found out that they were actually from the same parish in Eastern Pennsylvania. After a week of online messages and chatting, they decided to talk on the phone.

When the conversation went well, they decided to get together the next night. Scott took Kathleen to her favorite restaurant and they went for a walk. It only took a few weeks for their relationship to become exclusive.

“We both knew this was it for us,” Kathleen said. “We had found the spouse God set apart for us.”

After six months of dating, at her apartment one evening, Scott proposed, and she accepted. “We cannot wait to fully embrace the sacrament of marriage,” Kathleen told CatholicMatch. “We are ready to begin our life together and get each other to heaven!"
