How Does Matching Work?

How are matches suggested?

The first step to get suggested matches is to fill out your Match Portrait.

This questionnaire addresses key areas where successful couples agree on, such as personality traits, values, outlook on life, and other factors on one's personality. After you fill out your portrait, it is evaluated using a Likert scale. Then, using these results, a comparison is made between other members. Those who are compatible based on these results are then suggested to each other as matches.

When you're filling out the portrait, you might be surprised at how personal some of the questions are. But don't worry because your responses are never seen by human eyes. So, it's important to be honest when answering these questions to ensure that the best possible matches are suggested.

Also, note that CatholicMatch only suggests matches to those who are free to marry in the Catholic Church.

How can I review my matches?

Matches appear on your Match Page for your review. To view an individual match, select "Reveal" (or "update" if you've already viewed the match previously). This action brings you to the profile of your suggested match where you can learn more about him or her.

At the top of the profile, you will be asked to gauge your interest in the member. If the match doesn't interest you, select "No" and the profile will be removed from your match list. If the match does interest you, select "Yes" and the match will remain in your match list. In addition, if your match also indicates interest in you we'll let you both know!

What if I don't like the majority of my matches?

If you were honest when providing your responses to the Match Portrait questionnaire, we'd like to encourage you to be open minded when reviewing your matches. This is because a lot of time, money, and resources went into researching successful faith-focused marriages so that we could provide a high quality matching system that focuses on matching men and women who truly have potential.

With that being said, travel may not be an option for everyone so we provide match filters to narrow potential matches based on distance and a few other key factors. Adjusting these match filters will not remove past matches, but it will ensure that future suggestions meet the criteria provided.
