Reading Eric-654357’s CatholicMatch profile is like skimming the resume of a Fulbright Scholar. He sounds too good to be true.
But it is, indeed, all true. This dark-haired, blue-eyed 29-year-old is an ER doctor who cooks well, swing dances, plays guitar and prays the Liturgy of the Hours.
Did I mention he was the president of his college fraternity? And that he's participated in medical missions in Guatemala and Brazil? And he’s backpacked solo through the Smoky Mountains? And he quoted Pope Benedict’s encyclical “Deus Caritas Est” when asked to cite his favorite Scripture verse?
Yes, ladies: Such a man does exist.
Eric joined CatholicMatch late last year. It’s the only dating site he’s ever tried.
The ER doctor describes work as “chaotic” and grueling. “You have to be decisive, calm, and action-oriented. It is very difficult to see God amidst the pain and suffering of a busy emergency room. That’s why I always pray on the way to work to be Jesus for my patients. You have to be well grounded in prayer.”
Eric owns a home in Durham, N.C., and when he’s not working, he makes a mean spicy arrabiata marina sauce and a delicious veggie soup. “But I’m most at home in front of a grill, where no cut of meat is safe," he adds.
He knows how to swing dance and loves to pick up guitar, if even for a few minutes. “It's nice to be able to provide music around a campfire or other group outing so I mostly play fun music that people know and can sing along with. My favorite worship songs are ‘Your Love is Extravagant,’ ‘Indescribable,’ ‘Offering,’ and ‘Here is Our King.’"
Since joining CatholicMatch, Eric has gone on a few dates and has traveled to meet women. “One thing I've found is that even if someone looks good on paper, chemistry in person is way more important. But there is no way to know beforehand, so you have to just put yourself out there and trust God.”
Why is it so hard to find a nice Catholic girl?
“I think it's difficult to find a well-balanced person in general,” he says. “Life is demanding, and it’s difficult to find time to develop all aspects of ourselves. I've dated many nice Catholic girls, but what is truly attractive to me is a girl who not only has a foundation of faith but has also made the effort to be beautiful in mind, body, and spirit.”
