Bigger Deal: Sex Or Facebook Relationship Status?

1

Sex used to be what was sacred. Now it's the Facebook relationship status. Think about it.

If a couple has sex, it often doesn't mean anything. In fact, it's often preceded by a clarification that "having sex won't mean anything, right?" I mean, why should sharing the most intimate of all gestures and the possibility of creating a new human person mean anything? Crazy. And actually, such mood-killing talk would be the exception, not the rule. Many people don't even discuss sex at all prior to "doing it."

On the other hand, consider the Facebook relationship status. The one sure-fire way to tell if somebody is in a serious relationship is by checking his or her Facebook relationship status. If somebody changes her relationship status on Facebook, now you know it's getting serious. And such a monumental step in a relationship is almost always preceded by a lot of careful consideration and a serious DTR conversation the night before. So romantic.

And we wonder why "it's complicated."
