Sean was ready to give up. Not on dating and certainly not the Catholic faith—when you’re a 23-year-old Air Force pilot, surrender isn’t in your vocabulary. But the idea of finding a woman who would push him to be a better man and a better Catholic seemed beyond his grasp—or at least beyond the grasp of what contemporary society offered.
CatholicMatch was Sean’s last attempt at finding such a woman, although even here he was skeptical. “I was very hesitant to join online dating,” he recalled. “But a good friend of mine from church told me about CatholicMatch and I regarded this website a lot higher than other dating sites out there.” So it wasn’t with incredible optimism that Sean ventured into online Catholic dating, but he put himself out there.
It had been a few weeks since 24-year-old Tracy had logged into CatholicMatch, and she too had doubts as to whether the kind of Catholic spouse she wanted even existed. When she did log back in, a message from Sean was waiting for her. “I was initially drawn by how beautiful she was in her pictures,” he said. “And when I read her profile I saw how active she was in her faith.”
Both Sean and Tracy had busy schedules—she works as an ultrasound tech in San Antonio—so this wasn’t a case of initial contact suddenly triggering an avalanche of communication. They did, however, exchange messages off and on for a couple weeks. “He finally asked me out on a date,” Tracy told CatholicMatch. “We lived about three hours apart, so we planned it for a weekend.”
Sean & Tracy's personal chemistry together enhanced their shared faith commitment.
