Sean & Tracy Kept Faith They Would Find The Right One

Sean was ready to give up. Not on dating and certainly not the Catholic faith—when you’re a 23-year-old Air Force pilot, surrender isn’t in your vocabulary. But the idea of finding a woman who would push him to be a better man and a better Catholic seemed beyond his grasp—or at least beyond the grasp of what contemporary society offered.

CatholicMatch was Sean’s last attempt at finding such a woman, although even here he was skeptical. “I was very hesitant to join online dating,” he recalled. “But a good friend of mine from church told me about CatholicMatch and I regarded this website a lot higher than other dating sites out there.” So it wasn’t with incredible optimism that Sean ventured into online Catholic dating, but he put himself out there.

It had been a few weeks since 24-year-old Tracy had logged into CatholicMatch, and she too had doubts as to whether the kind of Catholic spouse she wanted even existed. When she did log back in, a message from Sean was waiting for her. “I was initially drawn by how beautiful she was in her pictures,” he said. “And when I read her profile I saw how active she was in her faith.”

Both Sean and Tracy had busy schedules—she works as an ultrasound tech in San Antonio—so this wasn’t a case of initial contact suddenly triggering an avalanche of communication. They did, however, exchange messages off and on for a couple weeks. “He finally asked me out on a date,” Tracy told CatholicMatch. “We lived about three hours apart, so we planned it for a weekend.”

First-date awkwardness was present, as they went out to eat and saw an Indiana Jones movie. But Tracy still described the first date as “awesome,” and Sean was interested in seeing her again. “I told him I was busy for the next three weekends, which I really was,” she recalled. “He took that as a hint and was giving me space until I texted him one day out of the blue.”

Tracy was participating in a running event and she invited Sean to come out and watch her. “He was a trooper in meeting some of my closest family and friends on just our second date,” she said. It was worth the trip for Sean though, as the connection he’d felt on their first date was now shared and the couple has continued to see each other every weekend.

“(We decided) we were ready to make a more long-term commitment to one another,” Sean told CatholicMatch. “We have since shared in a very happy and loving relationship with God as our focal point.”

Sean and Tracy unite on more than faith—there’s a special personal chemistry that also exists. “We are just each other’s type,” Tracy said. “We both didn’t think it was possible to find such a fitting match considering our somewhat eccentric personalities.”

The relationship between Sean and Tracy is still young and God is the ultimate Author of where this story will end up. What we can say right now is that this is two faith-filled young people, enjoying the blessing of knowing each other and they’re both tremendously excited about what the future may hold together.
