Long distances come into play with any dating site. She lives on the other side of the country, yet his heart burns for her. How can it be, Lord, that you allow two meant for each other to be separated by such long distances?
I turn to the book of Tobit for light. Tobit sends his son Tobias to Rages to collect a large sum of money. The Archangel Raphael guides and accompanies Tobias on the long journey because Tobias doesn’t know the way, and Raphael leads him on a side trip to Ecbatana, where Tobias finds his future wife, Sarah.
All of us are walking with St. Raphael on this road to where that special someone is waiting – the many single Jacobs and Sarahs out there.
Walking this road is a Lent in itself. A Lent of waiting, anticipating and fasting in how God will answer our desires at the end of the journey.
No one is alone in this walk of faith, and even though the devil throws the kitchen sink at you, as he did Sarah, wiping out her first seven husbands, one got through – the one accompanied by St. Raphael!
Continue with St. Raphael, who will heal you along the way as he creams the devil in the process!
We can’t always fix the damage from our past relationships or the pain from rejections, but God loves a good comeback, and as in the example of Sarah, who was against the ropes and ready for the towel, it was then that her simple prayer was heard – and for you as well.
As you travel on this mysterious road to your beloved this Lent, know that Jesus, our truly Beloved, is at the end of that road too, waiting with open arms.
Reflection question: Take a step down your road today by closing the door on a past hurt.
