His Profile Was So Attractive She Bought a Subscription Just to Message Him!

When Jacob read Teresa's profile, he felt attracted to her because they shared the same likes and values—plus, he thought she had a cute smile. What gave him pause was that she lived three hours away, and he didn't own a car.
He was worth a paid subscription!
In 2016, when Teresa, a med student, noticed Jacob's profile in the new member's search, she thought his picture looked attractive. She read his profile and felt that he embodied everything she sought in a partner. He seemed mature, and Teresa liked how he thought and expressed himself in writing. Intrigued, she signed up and paid for a subscription just so that she could message Jacob. Teresa had been browsing CatholicMatch sporadically for a year, but Jacob was the first member she chose to contact.
Reading Teresa's message—where she commented on things she liked about him—Jacob, a teacher, felt impressed. "I was like, 'wow,' she appreciates all those things about me. I want somebody who would appreciate those things about me," he recalls.
Then Jacob read Teresa's profile, and he liked how they seemed to have the same tastes. Plus, he found her thoughtful and mature sounding. "That's in big contrast to many of the other women I ran into," he says.
DTR on the 10th date!
The couple's relationship and spark built slowly. Jacob and Teresa felt charmed by one another, and they thought their relationship had a lot of potential. They tried to see one another much as possible to discover if they were a good match. Right before their 10th date, a few months into their relationship, Teresa indicated to Jacob that she wanted to define the relationship. When Jacob arrived at her apartment, he had a surprise for Teresa. He had purchased a used car to see her more easily.
"Previous to that, he had been borrowing his friends and roommate's cars," she says. "He wanted to show me how invested he was in our relationship."
Jacob also brought her a two-person beanbag to watch movies together. "I wanted to make sure I impressed her," Jacob laughs.
Family love...
The fact that Teresa and Jacob's parents liked one another helped solidify their relationship. The two families enjoy hanging out, and their moms are especially good friends.
"Our families enjoying each other's company is a huge blessing," they say.
Their relationship progressed, and Jacob found a job and a place to live nearby Teresa.
He planned a starry proposal!
In April of 2017—two years after they had made DTR talk—Jacob made plans to spend the whole day with Teresa. She had an inkling that he might propose, but Jacob had nerves of steel walking around the entire day with an engagement ring burning in his pocket. For their marathon date, he picked her up for brunch, and then they went to the park conservatory. The couple had a pleasant time looking at the plants and butterfly exhibit. Afterward, they went for dinner at Prima Vista, a nice restaurant on the west side of Cincinnati.
"The restaurant has the best view in the city in the evening because the sun is shining from the west, and it lights all the skyscrapers on fire," Jacob says. "It's really gorgeous."
After dinner, they went to Mount Echo Park to do one of their favorite activities: stargazing. Jacob laid out a tarp on the grass, and the two lay on the ground, covered by a blanket, looking up at the stars.
"We were talking about this and that and counting the stars that they came out. I sneakily pulled the ring out of my pocket, and then I asked her if she'd marry me," he recalls.
Teresa adds, "I answered with an enthusiastic, 'yes!'"
An unexpected way for God to lead me to my spouse
On May 25, 2019, Teresa and Jacob professed their marital vows at St. Columban in Cincinnati—the parish where Teresa had received all of her sacraments. The couple has one baby boy, and they welcomed a baby girl in May 2022.
"CatholicMatch was an unexpected way for God to lead me to my wife and life partner, but I'm happy with the result—my lovely, loving wife and family!" he shares.
