Fall is one of my favorite seasons. It is no secret that I enjoy pumpkin recipes all year long, but thankfully in the Fall, I don't have to hide my obsession. My husband loves pumpkin as much as I do, with the addition of all things apple! The changing foliage and cooler temps lend themselves well to a whole new list of date ideas that the warmer summers make too uncomfortable. Some of these items are great for long-distance relationships, whereas others are better to enjoy in person. Pick a few suggestions to try with your special someone or simply enjoy with a group of friends!
- Plan a date baking your favorite fall recipe, or host a baking party. Here are some of our favorite fall recipes:
- Don't forget about apple cider! Visit a farm that uses a real cider press for fresh cider, or try a cider tasting date. Hard cider varies just as much as the fresh pressed, so be sure to sample a few of those, too.
- Go apple, gourd, or pumpkin picking. Then have fun carving or painting them!
- Try the local farmer's market. If trying a farmer's market date, plan to shop your favorites, but also challenge each other to try something you haven't tried before!
- Look up your local Oktoberfest as well as local vineyards for their Fall tastings.
- Star gazing! October and November are perfect months for identifying constellations. Be sure to check these dates for Meteor showers.
- Go hiking now that tick season is winding down, and enjoy the crisp Autumn air, as well as the beautiful scenery.
- Go for a drive. Have any family or friends in New England! Now is the perfect time to visit and enjoy the foliage.
- If you're more active, try going for a bike ride instead of the drive.
- Check out the local fairs and carnivals. Many of the small town fairs have some big-time stars in performance.
- Go park hopping.
- While you're at the park, look for a disc golf course to play!
- Get lost in a corn maze.
- Go horseback riding.
- The zoo is much more pleasant now that the summer crowds have died down and the temperatures have dropped.
- Go leaf sledding. Here's how it works: rake leaves into a long pile starting at the top of a hill. Let the leaf pile roll gently down, coating the hill like thick snow. Use either a sled or a cardboard box. This usually works better after a rain when the leaves have matted down a bit.
- Zip line through the trees! Enjoy the view.
- Instead of making raking a chore, turn it into a game. Divide the lawn in half and see who can create the best maze using leaves as a border. Then time how fast you can run through it. You'll look ridiculous to your neighbors, but you'll have a ton of fun!
- Try your hand at an archery date.
- Check out your local listings for a drive-in theater.
- Go for a hot hair balloon ride.
- Cheer on your favorite football team by going to a game or planning this date at home on Sunday.
- Watch the sun rise or sun set together with a few samples of hot chocolate.
- Go Fishing! Take advantage of the later sun rising to find a great shaded spot.
- Enjoy s'mores by a bonfire. Be creative with these s'mores recipes.
- Take turns reading Fall poetry to each other.
- Host a Fall themed costume party.
- Organize a group of friends to help rake yards for the sick, disabled, and elderly.
- Help out your local youth group with an All Saints costume party or visit a cemetery to pray for the souls in purgatory.
- Volunteer at the local crisis pregnancy center (October is the annual Respect Life Program and November is National Prematurity Awareness Month)
