Dating couples who met on CatholicMatch

We often receive stories from couples who just met or have been dating for a little while, and they want to share their good news with the world! While we publish separate stories for couples who are engaged or married, we thought it might be fun to take a look at some couples who met recently on CatholicMatch and are currently dating.

Here are some of their stories.

Kathy and Michael

His perspective: After spending several years as a member on CatholicMatch, meeting Kathy for the first time in April 2019 truly warmed my heart. During our first date at a Colombian restaurant in Brooklyn, we had a delightful conversation and shared what brought us to Catholic online dating.

Her perspective: I was so skeptical when I first heard from Michael because I was just out of a relationship. Michael was the one who texted me on CatholicMatch first, however, I felt as though I was not ready for a new relationship so I just let everything flow, and didn't put a lot of effort in at the beginning. Time after time though, I see Michael as a God-loving person. His faith has touched my heart and I said YES when he asked me to be his girlfriend.

What their relationship has looked like so far: We began this adventure first by taking part in local Catholic NYC events. We attended young adult Masses, helped the homeless, and took part in pro-life events. As our relationship has unfolded, we have each shown each other elements of Catholicism we were previously unfamiliar with. For example, she showed me the monthly Young Adult Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. I showed her the Extraordinary Form of the Mass at The Shrine and Parish Church of the Holy Innocents. She introduced me to Fr. Michael Gaitley’s 30-day retreats. I taught her what I knew about Catholic theology from private study.

When we aren’t praying together we are always having fun or eating good food. We have gone zip lining in New Jersey, kayaking in Pennsylvania, played games at Dave and Buster’s past midnight, and gone to a light festival in Staten Island. Additionally, we have vowed to go to as many different ethnic-based restaurants as possible and I have enjoyed Vietnamese cooking from her mother.

Throughout all of this we have learned to put each other’s interests first. We constantly ask God to protect our relationship and we encourage each other to never compromise when it comes to love. This is why after nearly seven months with Kathy, I can easily say she is the best woman I’ve ever met. I love her with all my heart and am falling more and more in love with her on a daily basis.

Mary and Christian

I was about to give up on dating all together. Although I felt a pull towards marriage and family life, I decided that maybe I was being called to religious life. I was just about to go pursue that when a guy put a like on my profile. His profile seemed simple, and nothing out of the ordinary, however something inside me told just say “hello,” nothing more and nothing less so I did. From his own words, he saw me as the “real deal,” in terms of my Catholic faith, and gave me a like. And that’s how our relationship slowly but surely began.

We told each other jokes, talked about our interests, and about a week or so later, he wanted to meet up for coffee, so we did. We live about an hour away from each other.

I’ll admit I was a little uncertain at first, but the Holy Spirit guided us. We’ve been together for two months now, and so far he’s the best person that I’ve ever dated. I continue to pray for our relationship to grow and flourish daily, and I feel closer to him after anytime we see each other.

Christina and Colin

Colin messaged me on CatholicMatch and we immediately were interested in each other. I had just recently left a relationship that wasn’t headed anywhere so when he messaged me I wasn’t expecting a whole lot.

What first attracted me to Colin was how thorough his profile was. I knew immediately that he was serious and was looking for something that would last. I was also drawn to his level of faith, it was refreshing to see that there were people out there like me who wanted to put God at the center of our relationship.

I was a member of CatholicMatch for about 4 months before I met Colin, and he had been a member for almost 3 years.

Hardest part so far: The primary difficulty we've had is distance. In order to see each other, we need to travel on I-4, which has infamously bad traffic, and what on paper should be an hour's drive easily can go over two to two and a half hours, but every time visit, whatever frustration I may have had vanishes, and I'm just happy to see her.

Her most memorable date: On our first date we went to a music festival and on stage in between bands a man came out to talk a little and introduce the next band. They introduced him and the crowd cheered but Colin and I looked at each other and had no idea who he was. Then on my way home after the music festival I saw a billboard with the man on it, so I immediately told Colin and we both laughed about it. Now I see billboards and signs everywhere with that mans face on it and it always makes me smile and think about our first date.

His most memorable date: On our third date, we met at her parent's house and baked apple pies and I helped her decorate for Christmas. The entire time I was suffering through a toothache and the only way I could have relief was by keeping cold water on it. It put a damper on how quick I could be to converse, having to pause every minute or so, but where I would expect someone to get very annoyed with me, Christina was patient and understanding, and did whatever she could to help alleviate the pain and keep my mind off of it. It really highlighted what a kind heart she has, and despite the pain I had a wonderful time and was persistently smiling on my way home that evening, thankful to have found her.

Christina sums it up; I have never met anyone like him, I didn’t even know a guy like him existed. He meets all of my criteria plus much more. I am so glad I met him!
