Terry & Todd Found Love in Their 50s

Terry, never married, was in her early 50s when she met the man of her dreams on CatholicMatch. She had tried a number of dating services with no luck. That changed when she joined CatholicMatch. A month into her membership, she met a kind and gentle man named Todd whom she quickly fell in love with (read their dating story).

I touched base with them to about their wedding, which took place on June 21, 2014, their camping honeymoon, and how they are enjoying married life. What came through in our conversation is how happy they are to have found one another.

Their Wedding Was a Family Affair

Both Todd and Terry are very family-oriented—her love of her of nieces and nephews is one of the qualities that drew Todd to Terry initially. At big family get-togethers like Thanksgiving and Christmas, Terry would always end up at the kid’s table. “Personally, I’d rather sit down with the children; I have more fun talking with the kids. I am very close with them.”

Consequently, it was natural for them to have a wedding that included those nieces and nephews. “All of my nieces and nephews, my goddaughter, Todd’s son and daughter, his daughter's future husband, his nephew, and his best friend comprised the 14 person wedding party,” says Terry.

So when it came time for the wedding party to sit down at the head table, Terry’s oldest niece gave a wedding toast to her aunt and uncle: “She pointed out that the head table was not any different than a family dinner where Aunt Terry and Uncle Todd were sitting with the kids.”

So was the fact that every important role in the wedding involved a family member. This ranged from Terry's brother-in-law playing the hymns, to his wife, Terry’s sister, singing the vocals, to Todd's sister and other relatives doing the readings. For Terry, whose dad is deceased, it was special to her that her brother walked her down the aisle.

Camping Honeymoon

One of the things that bonded Terry and Todd was that they both enjoy camping. For their honeymoon, they took Todd’s camping trailer on a trip to Alpine Lakes RV Resort. On their way there, everyone who saw their camper knew they we were newlyweds. On the camper’s bumper was a “just hitched” sign, which Terry's niece and goddaughter made out of colorful duct tape. “Cars were honking at us and giving us the thumbs up sign. It was really funny,” says Terry.

They had a lovely peaceful honeymoon with their campsite being right on the water. Todd recalls, “I really enjoy watching the sunsets with Terry.

Married Life

Terry says, “One of the best things about being married is that we no longer have to commute two and a half hours to see each other.” Todd says, “Every time I am coming home for work, it’s so nice to know that Terry will be there for me. There’s that expectation of seeing her face and feeling her affection when I walk through the door. The best part is that I get to experience in person her love on a daily basis.”
