Alicia knew what she wanted from life, but the 25-year-old living in northwest Ohio wasn’t certain CatholicMatch was the place where she was going to find it. The oldest of four siblings, Alicia knew she wanted marriage, children of her own and that faith would always be first, but it was with reluctance that she checked out CatholicMatch.
“I wasn’t really into it,” she admitted. “The prospect of meeting someone Catholic sparked my interest, but God’s plan was different.” Alicia created her profile, but stayed as a free member until her heart was in it.
Unbeknownst to her, the profile was viewed by a non-member. 22-year-old Roberto was also deciding whether he wanted to join and while it would be a stretch to say viewing her profile made him instantly fall in love, the prospect of meeting women like her didn’t hurt the cause of his signing up.
Over the course of the ensuing years, Alicia’s mindset began to change and she decided to become a full member. Roberto sent her a message. After reading his profile she didn’t hesitate to reply. With both of them online, they moved to the chat system and before they knew it, literally hours had gone by. Something special was underway. “God waited until we were both ready,” Alicia told CatholicMatch.
The couple set up nightly chats and after two weeks they exchanged phone numbers, beginning frequent talking and texting. He was living just east of Columbus, in the central part of the state—not long-distance, but less conducive to a quick get-together.
When Roberto did come to visit, Alicia was concerned that maybe they had run out of things to talk about. “That was SO not true,” she recalled. “We found even more things to talk about and enjoyed each other's company more than we both expected.”
The prospect of a wedding toast is very much alive in Roberto & Alicia's future.
That transpired eight months ago. The relationship has grown stronger since then and marriage talk is in the air. “He only lives hours away, but it seems like he lives in another country,” Alicia said lamenting the distance. “It gets hard from time to time with work schedules, financial obstacles and everyday stress in general, but to me it's all worth it.”
In addition to phone calls and texts, Roberto & Alicia have made use of Skype to allow them visual contact during their time apart. Even if they were single, they are each at busy thresholds of their life, with Alicia working at a financial institution and taking online classes.
Alicia sees in Roberto a sign of Divine Love. “When God sends you someone you’re meant to be with, you truly see His love through that person…I’m so happy God led Roberto and I to this site…and I’m thankful there are more happy times to come.”
