Dear Single Mike,
This is a special time in your life. It’s a time when you have no dependents, no ties. No one is waiting for you at home. Far from this being a time of waiting, it is a time for doing.
You are solely responsible to yourself for where you live, what you do with your time, where you work, what you do with your money. You can be whoever you want to be, spend time with whoever you want and go wherever you want with no thought or consideration for another.
Does this sound selfish?
Only if you make it so. This is your chance to make a great contribution to the betterment of humanity as a whole. There will be other chances, but none as great as right now.
Don’t think of this time as just the transition from adolescence to full adulthood: Being single is a time unto itself.
Someone will come along one day. You will be captivated by her beauty and will love her with all your heart. You will just naturally cease to think, “What’s best for me?” and think instead, “What’s best for us?”
But until that day, do those things you’ve wanted to do since you were a child. Don’t put off projects till tomorrow, because tomorrow someone will come along whom you will sweep off her feet.
Go out and have fun. Study hard, party hard. Live day-to-day as you’ve always wanted. Go out and consider the lilies. Go north and work the mines. Build a deep relationship with God, a foundation for your life. Live overseas on a bowl of rice a day. Volunteer for the missions in Africa.
God wants you to be single right now. When His timing is right He’ll set up an almost magical chain of events that will lead you to meet the girl of your dreams. Oh, if only you could see into your future!
Don’t stress so much about finding Miss Right. You’ll find her at the right time.
For now, focus this time you will never have again on being a man of value.
