It Started When He Logged Onto The Wrong Dating Site

When Adam had an error logging onto CatholicMatch after spending some time on another Catholic dating site, the helpful site administrator did more than just sort out his issue.

“Her helpfulness and understanding of my mistake made me decide to use this site instead,” he said.

Adam, then in his early 30s, found someone he wanted to ask out within his first week.

“Reading through her profile I got the sense that she had a good sense of humor, knew when to relax and enjoy life and take it seriously also. We had a shared interest in sports. I remember the one picture of her in a Minnesota Twins shirt and this big smile on her face that attracted me greatly,” Adam said.

Their original first date was a football game two weeks in the future. But two days later, Adam decided he couldn’t wait. On his lunch break he sent his match, Angela, then in her mid-20s, a message asking if they could meet for dinner that night.

Adam arrived early to put in a table request. “I saw her walk in and my first thought was the pictures she put online did not do her justice, because she looked stunning,” Adam said.

“We spent a solid two hours that night at dinner talking to one another back forth, sharing things with one another. After this one dinner with Angela I knew that I didn’t want to talk to anyone else,” Adam said.

“For the next several months things were going great for us,” Adam said.

But then everything changed

Adam got laid off from his job and was out of work for weeks. Finally, his union set him up with a job in North Dakota, a four-hour drive away from his home—and Angela—in Minnesota. The couple decided they could make what would amount to a quasi-long distance relationship work (Adam would only be back in town on weekends).

The long drives proved to be a positive for their relationship.

“I already knew that this was the girl I wanted to marry. After four months of working out there and having a four-hour drive home every weekend, it gave me a lot of time to think. Each week made me more and more sure that I wanted to ask her,” Adam said.

Adam bought a ring. Then he took her out to dinner. “Through the whole dinner I was nervous, thinking about that ring in my pocket, hoping that she wouldn’t notice,” Adam said.

But he didn’t ask the question at dinner.

Afterwards, they drove home to his house and hung out in his living room. At some point, he pulled her towards himself and reached for the ring, covering it in his fist.

“Then Angela says ‘I’m bored’”

“I come back with, 'I know something we can do that won’t be boring. Will you marry me?’”

Angela turned around and looked at him. “What?!” she said.

“So much was running through my mind when he asked such as, ‘Is this really happening?’” Angela said.

Adam could feel her heart racing. Tears rolled down her cheeks.

“More than anything, I wanted to marry him. I remember having a conversation with my mom and telling her, I’d marry him tomorrow if I could.

It was the easiest ‘yes’ ever, and now I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him,” Angela said.

“What I was most attracted to was his kind and generous heart. I also fell in love with his sense of humor. He makes me laugh more than anyone else I know.

He puts the biggest smile on my face when we’re together. Plus, he’s cute to boot,” Angela said.

The couple that goes to Mass together...

Faith has been at the center of their relationship from the beginning.

Angela is a faith formation instructor at her parish and Adam is a fourth-degree Knights of Columbus member. In February 2016, a few months into their relationship, Adam invited Angela fourth-degree Knights ceremony after learning that she had never been to one.

“This was the first time that we went to Mass together as a couple. Since that time we have been going to weekly Sunday masses together, only missing a few where the other person was out of town or some personal engagement didn’t allow it,” Adam said.

Their wedding is set for September 23, 2017.
