Vita was tired of the dating scene. “I didn’t think meeting someone in a bar or a club was going to lead to a successful relationship,” she said. “Besides, it’s very time consuming and expensive to be constantly going out.” Vita had tried other dating sites before, but decided to make God and a family her number one priority. That is when she discovered CatholicMatch.
“I realized I didn’t have a very good chance of meeting the man of my dreams if I didn’t keep all the doors and windows open for him to come to me,” Vita added. She is a native of Lithuania who moved to London in 2005 upon accepting a job offer.
Chris is an American who was living in the United Kingdom. He was interested in being part of a pro-life group in the UK, and noticed that Vita was a member of the Society for Protection of Unborn Children. “I liked Vita’s profile and her likes and enjoyments were very similar to mine,” said Chris.
Chris sent her a message asking about her involvement in SPUC. She checked his profile and noted that he answered “yes” to all seven faith questions, an “absolute necessity” for her. “We realized we’re connected not only by pro-life ideas, but also by love for animals and involvement in the Charismatic Renewal of the Church. Even our contact lens prescriptions matched!” said Vita.
They got to know each other via Skype for a few weeks before meeting in person outside the Holburn tube station in London.
“It wasn’t love at first sight, but I thought he was a sweet, thoughtful, honest guy and really wanted to get to know him better,” Vita said. “He surprised me by learning some phrases in Lithuanian and bringing Confessions by St Augustine as a present.” This was a book they had talked about during some of their chats. Those weren’t the only things that impressed her; Vita had always loved motorcycles, and Chris was a “biker with a Harley.”
They went to the British Museum in London. “I was on cloud nine after that first meeting!” said Chris.
“I have to confess that most of the time I was looking not at the exhibits, but at Chris’s reflection in the glass, thinking “could he possibly be the One?” Vita admitted.
The two had agreed that the first meeting was not a date, and they remained just friends for a while. “I was comfortable with him as my friend and we met a few more times, watched movies, went to Mass. I visited him in his town, but we adamantly stayed in the friendship zone,” said Vita.
The growing attraction was obvious. “The hello and goodbye hugs lasted longer and longer, we were happy in each other’s company, time flew, he was always greeting me with a bunch of flowers,” said Vita. On December 13, 2008, they officially became a couple. Two months later, Chris took Vita to New York and got down on one knee at the top of the Empire State Building. “I’m not sure whose hands were shaking more – mine or his, but he did manage to put a custom-made, gorgeous engagement ring on my finger,” Vita remembered. “We spent the rest of the day eating cheesecake and drinking champagne in New York City.”
They were married in August of 2009 and had a photo session at the Kenilworth Castle in England. Six years after finding each other on CatholicMatch, they have two daughters, 3 years old and 4 months old. “My faith in Christ has also deepened tremendously since we've met, and I feel we and our family are continually growing in faith and love. So blessed!” said Chris.
