Religion and politics. Our romance started over politics, and will culminate in a beautiful church wedding.
During
the 2004 election, I (Bev) was bewildered by the “red state/blue state”
discussion in CM’s St. Thomas More Room (aka, the “War” Room). Harry
sent me a link explaining what this meant. Fortunately, we are both
conservatives, so for most of 2005 we argued amiably for the same side
in the War Room. Then a few of us decided to form a committee to “bring
the War Room together” for a NYC-based event called ‘Lovefest’ in
January 2006, Harry was there.
I was so impressed with him. His
military "get-it-done" attitude. His generosity. His kindness and
self-effacing demeanor. His humor. Then, he sent me flowers. That
started the whole thing.
A long distance relationship, from
Oregon to Connecticut, ensued. This went on for weeks and weeks, and
when he started to ask me to marry him, I told him I couldn't possibly
move to the West Coast because I had my 84 year old uncle nearby. I was
his sole near relative. That was Feb 7. On Feb 8, my uncle John died of
a massive heart attack.
Harry was on the next plane out of
Portland to help me with the funeral. That weekend, he was my rock. By
Sunday, I'd agreed to come to Portland for a week in March, and to
bring my son. By Easter, we were in Florida at my relatives, showing
off my beautiful emerald engagement ring.
The wedding date is
July 22, 2006 in Stamford. Big, Gothic church. Latin Mass. Candlelight.
And LOTS of friends from Catholic Match in attendance!
“O Lord, I have loved the beauty of Your house, and the place of the tabernacle of Your glory.”
