Today's gospel is a provocative one in that it challenges our trust in God's willingness to answer our prayers:
Jesus said to his disciples: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asked for a loaf of bread, or a snake when he asked for a fish? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.
“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets” (Matthew 7: 7-12).
But what about our prayers that have gone unanswered? Do they leave you feeling somewhat ignored by God? I have a few suggestions for you in my video reflection.
The reflection questions for this scripture passage are:
1. How would I rate my level of trust in God? How much control over my requests do I give Him?
2. When I pray, am I seeking God's will, or my own?
A great resolution for the next few days is to find time to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, a wonderful way to ask God for an increase in trust in Him. And if you have any comments or questions, you can email me at [email protected].
