Gift Guide: Your Work Mentor Who Has Given You the Best and Worst Relationship Advice
2
We all have these people in our lives. Friends or mentors whom we love and admire but usually approach life (and relationships) a little differently than we do.
But this doesn’t make us love them any less! On the contrary, their sincerity, generosity, and loyalty to you is usually rivaled only by your mom. How do you show these people you are grateful for their friendship or help? Consider one of these gifts for Christmas.
1. A Gift Card for Lunch Out ($50)
Does your work mentor usually bring a bag lunch and eat at their desk? Give them the gift of not making their lunch one day with a gift card to a nearby restaurant or great take-out place.
2. A Set of Notepads From Fictional Hotels + Motivational Pencils ($40)
Replace those boring yellow post-it notes with a pack of these amazing notepads from fictional hotels. Wouldn’t you love to write yourself on a reminder on a hotel pad from The Overlook Hotel? Throw in some motivational pencils for good measure and help them elevate their office supply game! Some for women. Some for men.
3. A Great, Splurgey Pair of Socks ($20)
Likely, they wouldn’t spend $20 on a single pair of socks for themselves…but help them feel extra-cozy this winter with a great pair of socks. (Don’t worry, no one has too many pairs.)
4. The Best Book You Read This Year ($15)
What was the best book you read this year? Buy it for them and tuck a note in the front telling them why you loved it and why you think they would love it too.
Need some ideas? A fascinating coffee table book, a fun quick read, a thought-provoking non-fiction book, and a must-have cookbook.
5. A Dating Refresher Course ($88)
Is your work mentor single? If so, maybe they need a little dating refresher course (save 40% for Christmas). And if they’re giving you advice, they probably won’t be insulted you’re offering some back! While this one does primarily target Catholics, there’s something in here for everyone; because everyone who’s dating eventually wants the relationship to go somewhere. If you’re not sure they’d watch a video course, there’s an even more-accessible booklet you can give them too.
6. A Sincere Thank You Card (Free!)
Have you told this person how much your appreciate them lately? That they have helped you, guided you, or gone out of their way to make your day better? Or perhaps they were that sympathetic ear on a bad day, bought you a coffee for no reason, or sent you a hilarious email to cheer you up after you missed a deadline.
Tell them. Often, the best gift you can give someone is to let them know much they mean to you or how some small act of kindness went a long way. (For bonus points: actually hand write the note instead of typing it. These cards are amazing.)
