Benjamin was at a basketball game with a buddy’s wife when she gave him some advice.

“She said, ‘You’re too good to be single; have you tried CatholicMatch?’ My mom had suggested it before, but I had blown it off. I just always figured you should be able to meet a woman in the ‘old-fashioned’ way at church or the bar, so I shouldn’t have to pay money to meet someone. I heard stories about catfishing and figured that might happen.”
But, Benjamin finally decided to give it a shot, and created a profile that same night. He was a member for just six hours when Becca messaged him!
Becca had been a member of CatholicMatch off and on for six years.
She had served as a FOCUS missionary for three years but felt called to be a wife and mother. She was struggling to meet men in person, so she joined CatholicMatch since her faith was so important to her. She planned to let her subscription end and move on since she hadn’t met anyone she was truly interested in.
“But on a Thursday morning in February, I woke and checked my profile and saw a new member had joined...Ben.
I first noticed his profile picture, which was a slightly silly photo. Then, seeing that he was my age and in the same city, I read his profile. His love for his family and friends really shone. It was also evident that he cared about the faith and was a hard worker.” Becca sent her best friend a text saying "this could be the one"! Then, she quickly made the first move by reaching out, which, it turns out, impressed Ben.

“Just by reading her profile, I saw we had a lot in common. She had a really nice smile,” Ben adds. They decided to meet just one week after that initial message. They met at a local restaurant but discovered the wait for a table was over an hour. Becca knew the area and suggested going to a bar down the block. They ordered fancy cocktails and conversation took off naturally.
“We decided to order a second round,” Ben explains, “but by that point, we were both relaxed and ordered Coors Light...because that’s what we would have preferred in the first place!”
They had a lot of fun and Ben was looking forward to a second date. “But, at 9:30 Becca said it was getting late and she should head home. I took that as a sign that she wasn’t interested.”
Becca was actually excited to meet Ben and even stopped at an Adoration chapel on the way to their date to offer it to the Lord and trust that His will be done. “By the end of the first date, I knew I wanted a second one. I just go to bed early on work nights, so it didn’t phase me to be honest about that right off the bat. I was really hoping he would also want a second date!”
Of course, the second date and many others followed, though there were a few challenges along the way.
For Ben, getting to know Kansas City, which he had just recently moved to, was a challenge for planning dates, particularly since Becca knew the city so well. For Becca, it was finding the balance of time with both her family and Ben. But, that didn’t take long.

“Our third date was with my two oldest brothers! So they were supportive for the most part,” Becca smiles. Ben also travels a lot for work, so he was absent every other week for the first few months of their relationship. When he learned that Becca loved sending fun mail to people, he joined in on the antics. “Ben works in agriculture and was in Idaho on a business trip. That week, I received a potato in the mail. Not in a box or anything. Just a potato with postage attached to it and my address written in permanent marker. I knew he was a keeper at that point!”
Ben proposed on Christmas Eve after Mass with Becca’s family present.
They decided on a wedding date of September 5, 2020.
“We had the venue, food, wedding party, dress, and everything selected by early March. Then the global pandemic hit and we were watching the news daily as things unraveled. My dress came in destroyed because the shop where it was made was disrupted by the virus. Our catering situation had to change because of new health policies. Our rehearsal venue canceled three weeks out. A bridesmaid decided not to be in the wedding due to concerns of the virus. Our reception venue canceled two weeks out. Everything was falling apart in front of us,” Becca recalls. “But we knew we would get married on September 5th no matter what else happened.”

Becca reports that Ben was a steady rock for her as they went through all the changes and adjustments.
They ended up with a fairy tale wedding with a gorgeous Mass and many family and friends in attendance.
“The biggest highlight of the day was when the doors opened and I saw her ready to walk down the aisle,” Ben smiles. “And seeing all my friends and family that had traveled to celebrate with us. Everything went well and the reception ended with a giant pool party at our farm venue.”
Becca felt nothing but peace when they finally got to the wedding weekend.

“As soon as our rehearsal dinner started, which was a taco bar in my brothers’ back yard, we were both covered with incredible peace. I got to marry my best friend with our family and friends surrounding us. Everything else was just icing on our gluten-free cake,” Becca laughs.
Though their marriage is recent, they have already discovered how well they complement each other.
“My best friend is always there to talk about our future together and planning our family,” Ben says. Becca adds, “It has been such a gift making our house a home together.” One of the great joys they experienced was becoming pregnant, only to suffer the loss of a miscarriage. Becca muses, “While this was an incredibly tough situation to process, it solidified our love even more and helped us to grow closer. We’ve made it through pandemic wedding planning and the pain of miscarriage and our love continues to grow every day with joy and beauty.”
